Nique Journal

Melbourne Central

Nique’s latest flagship store has just been unveiled on level 2 of Melbourne Central shopping centre. Designed by NIQUE Director and Designer, Nick Ennis, who seems to be as comfortable with Architecture as he is with Fashion Design. The store is a clear evolution on its previous retail offer, reinforcing its position as the quintessential ‘Melbourne brand’.

The aim was to present NIQUE at a higher level than some of its international contemporaries by moving into a larger site and telling a richer brand story. Upon entry, you’ll notice the soaring ceiling height of 4.2 meters and large open plan. Already likened to a space station, with its ‘soft tech’ vibe including, phone charging docks in the change rooms and ‘Assistance’ buttons which light up a signal for the staff to come running.

Other features include, oversized solid chestnut display steps, recycled electrical poles for racks, yacht rigging rope installations, a Hydroponic Garden and the feeling that you’re walking on the moon. Yes, the floors are made from ‘Rebound Ace’ which is the same flooring they use on the Rod laver Arena. A floor finish that has never been used outside of a tennis court has been appropriated to give you a ‘bouncy, floating’ feeling as you move through the space.
