Nique Notes | Introducing Upstairs Wines
Excited to kick off Nique Notes ( where we partner with like-minded creatives ) with a unique business Upstairs Wines - a Boutique Online Store & Bottle Shop located in Long Jetty and soon to be Ettalong Beach on the Central Coast.
Michelle and Dave have a strong focus on natural, small batch & minimal intervention wines, local beers and spirits from Australia and around the world, with personal informative service.
We are all about interacting with customers, learning their preferences and explaining the stories behind the incredible wine makers we work with. It's a space where people feel comfortable to hang out and chat and feel part of the community.

Our journey into the world of wine started in Argentina after we decided to quit our corporate jobs and live there for a year. The people we met and their passion for wine changed our lives forever. From then we knew it was what we wanted our life to be about. We started a small import/distribution business whilst still heading back to South America each year to do Vintage and catch up with all our friends. This slowly expanded into representing small winemakers with similar ethos from Australia and all around the world. During this time Dave was studying wine science at CSU. As well as upstairs, he still makes small batch and experimental wines each year with friends under the moniker From Sunday Winemakers.

Upstairs Wines, a bit of a weird name, but it comes from the days when we had an office/tasting room above 'Speakeasy bar' in Bondi. A speakeasy above a speakeasy. When friends would come to visit the reply would be, “just come upstairs” and the name kinda stuck. Now our actual shop has no stairs and it doesn't really make sense but we like it. It's quite funny when people come into the ground floor shop and ask if they are in the right place.

Where can Nique customers shop Upstairs Wines?
Come and say hi if you are ever on the Central Coast Long Jetty and soon to be opened Ettalong Beach or shop online www.upstairswines.com.au
Upstairs Wines is a boutique online wine store. This site is filled with wines from producers with a passion for every aspect of what’s in the bottle.
What wines do you recommend over the Christmas period?
Australia is lucky enough to have a summer Christmas so forget the traditional options and drink for where you are.
Bubbles obviously get the party started, think Australian Prosecco for a light fresh, crisp and clean option. Plus excellent for a spritz or two in the arvo.
If you want to try something a bit different jump on the Pet Nat wagon. Short for Petilant Naturalle it's an old school way of making sparkling that comes in every colour of the wine rainbow. Usually they have no preservatives, are fun, funky and delicious. Our favorite is the Super Plonk from Lansdowne Wines.
One trend we are loving in the shop is people getting into chilled reds. Suits our climate and goes excellent with a wide range of foods. Think reds specifically made to be chilled or any red with low tannin, think Pinot Noir, Frappato or Gamay. Try Anthony Thévenet Beaujolais Villages 2018

Christmas lunch must drink??
Christmas for us is all about spending some quality time with friends and family, a moment to reflect on the year and have a bit of a celebration. In this spirit we think drink wines that make you happy. Shell's family are big into wine and everyone usually brings a couple of special bottles they have been saving in the cellar. Wine is meant to be drunk, not stored so there's no better time to get into good stuff. Time to crack open the big guns before having a quick afternoon siesta. Try the Bodega Vistalba Corte B if you want to wine the competition.
Favourite Summer spritz?
This summer upgrade your spritz with some amazing Australian bitter Aperitivos. Whilst we do love a classic Italian spritz there are some cracking Australian made Aperitivos that pair perfectly with Aussie Prosecco. Our fav, A splash of Bizzaro Aperitivo (Riverland) topped with Palloncino Prosecco (Murray Darling) and if you're being good a bit of soda over heaps of crushed ice.
